Coat of Many Cultures to be exhibited at Molloy College

St. Martin de Porres Cultural Arts Event on 4/18/07

Madona Cole-Lacy’s Coat of Many Cultures will be on display in Kellenberg Hall at the Molloy College St. Martin de Porres Cultural Arts Event on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.  This event is sponsored by the Molloy College President’s Advisory Board on Multi-Cultural Concerns in celebration of cultural diversity.  It presents the opportunity to make meaningful cross-cultural connections and foster an appreciation for rich customs and traditions through art and music; as well as provide the opportunity to learn about different societies and strengthen the community by fostering mutual respect.  This event is a significant initiative in acquiring scholarship support for students of African American and Hispanic heritage at Molloy College.  Mrs. Cole-Lacy is joining other artist and musicians in this collaboration.

Mrs. Cole-Lacy is a Long Island textile artist and art educator who hails originally from Sierra Leone West Africa, and is renowned for her one-of-a-kind wearable art fashions and accessories, as well as for her passion for educating, motivating and inspiring others.  Her mytimehascome.org website promotes tolerance to racial, ethnic and generational differences which is reflected in the giant Coat of Many Cultures which she created in collaboration with a culturally diverse group of senior citizens at the Salvation Army’s Freeport Senior Center.

In addition to her Coat of Many Cultures, Mrs. Cole-Lacy will also exhibit several of her African inspired wall art fabric designs and wearable art accessories.
